Kathryn McElroy 365

For one full year, starting August 19th 2013, I'm shooting photos of my experience living in New York City and posting one of them here each day. Who knows where I'll end up after I finish my masters degree; for now, this is my New York.

Day 365
My final photo for my 365 project. An aerial view of my neighborhood and favorite park. I can’t believe I made it through this entire year posting a photo a day. In the past year: I worked at Etsy, began and finished the thesis year of my master’s degree, graduated, landed a job at IBM Design, and moved to Austin. I’m so happy to have this visual record of my time in New York. Thank you for following along!
Day 364
It’s the second to last photo of my 365 project!
I loved experiencing the city from the top of the Empire State Building. It seems touristy (ok, it’s super touristy), but I gained such a great appreciation for the size and density of this city. I especially like this viewpoint because you can see the Chrysler Building, Roosevelt Island, Queens, and even LaGuardia from one view.
Day 363
The final week of my 365 photography project.
I fell in love with the Guggenheim the first time I visited it in 2002. The building was as beautiful as the artwork it displayed, but not in a up-staging kind of way. It feels worthy of the artwork; a shrine to house the relics of creativity.
Day 362
The final week of my 365 Photography Project. I’m focusing on my favorite places in the city and in my neighborhood.
The Union Square Green Market is by far the best farmer’s market I’ve ever seen. It was perfect for picking up green smoothie ingredients, loaves of bread, and delicious fruit. I couldn’t believe it was open four days a week, and I tried to visit it as often as possible.
Day 361
The final week of my 365 Photography Project. I’m focusing on my favorite places in the city and in my neighborhood.
Eataly was my go-to shop for all things carb-related. Rustic olive bread, focaccia with prosciutto, pasta from scratch, and gelato (not a carb, but close enough). For our first meal in the city, we bought squid ink pasta and dug through boxes to find our sauce pan to cook it. For our last meal in the city, we got a few different raviolis to try, right before we packed up our pots and pans again.
Day 360
The final week of my 365 Photography Project. I’m focusing on my favorite places in the city and in my neighborhood.
I was so lucky to live so close to Shake Shack and Madison Sq Park. I loved walking over for ice cream and then heading over to the dog park with Noah. If you only get ice cream, you can go through the B-Line and skip the line that wraps around the park!
